Reutter Family Fame

As some of you may know, Chris has a cousin in Vancouver right now competing in the Olympics.  She is a short-track speed skater.  She is a very sweet girl, very dedicated, and apparently a very good skater!  Here is a link with a few interviews/videos of her: http://www.lxtv.com/my1sttime.

Katherine raced today in the 500m heat and placed 1st and in the 3000m relay she placed 2nd.  In case you didn't see it at 12:30am (like me) here is a link to the relay (I couldn't find the 500m on video):  Relay Video  She doesn't skate again until Wed, the 17th.  Chris is lucky enough to be going to the olympics later this week.  What a great opportunity for him and some of his family members.  It's not every day that you can watch your cousin perform in the Olympics, and hopefully bring home a medal :)

Story Time!

Standing Still

When life comes crashing down on us, the very last thing we

want to do is be still.  We want to "fix" the problems.  We

want to do something to make the pain go away.  We want

to take action now so that we can prevent things from

getting any worse.

Yet...these are the times when we cannot fix things.  We

cannot make everything go back to how it was before

the crises.  There are times when an unexpected illness

strikes.  A relationship is abruptly ended.  A loved one

dies.  And we are left totally broken.

This is when we need to be still.  Be still and listen.  Be

still and wait for our Comforter.  Be still and feel the very

presence of our Father wrapping His arms around us.  Be

still and hear to the voice of the One who truly loves us.

Be still and allow the seeds of hope to be nurtured back to life.

Are you in pain today?  Is your heart aching with loneliness?

Take some time away from the everyday activities of life and

simply be still.  As you are still, you will receive the much-

needed replenishment and hope you need to carry you

This passage is from silentgrief.com.  I read the book, "Silent Grief", shortly after my miscarriage and still read her website occassionally. 

I read this today and really enjoyed it.  I often struggle with this and wanting to "fix" everything on my own.  It seems so easy to take things into my own hands, but in all reality, it's not.  I hope you find it encouraging in some way like I did.  Feel free to comment and let me know what you think.  I never know what my readers are thinking, or who you even are (besides my 8 followers) :)

Monkeying Around

Over the weekend Chris and I offered to watch our nieces so that mommy and daddy could have an entire night to themselves--kid free.  Of course their response was something like,  "What day?  They'll be there!"   We had watched them overnight before, but not with all three of them.  As you can see, we survived!  We both had a really good time.  The older girls were especially excited to play the Wii and Addie was just excited in general (as always, hehe).  Here are some pictures from our "sleepover" :)

Playing "Tumblin' Monkeys", a game I got at Meijer for $5

around Christmas.  It turned out to be a big hit!

 

Hanging with Addie before bedtime.  The older girls slept in our guest bedroom and she slept in her pack-in-play in a different bedroom.  It took her awhile to fall sleep, but after a few tears and lots of talking (to herself) she was in la-la land... but only til 6:30am.

We really enjoyed having them and were reminded of how much work kids can be, even for just one night, but what a blessing they are!
